Caught between two small lakes, the ranch probably stands larger than even her country house back in Unova. At a first glance, Erin has to admit she has her doubts about the location. Flanked by two bodies of water? Freshwater supply may abound, but that rises other concerns regarding the ground under which they and their pokémon stood.

After a second glance, which really ends up as more of an audit due to habit, she concludes things are worse than she expected.

Erin heard about the fresh milk produced in this ranch through a woman at the supermarket and decided she'd give it a try in the worst moment possible, by the looks of it. The owner is gone, called by the Council for whatever business, and her employees are utterly useless.

They don't even have a manager. Preposterous.

She massages her temples. "Okay, so who's the one in charge?"

He supposes it's a good opportunity to redeem himself after the Pangoro fiasco. The ranch is right next to Lilycove, or really extremely close to it, which makes coming in even easier.

The door slides open and already he's greeted by some level of mayhem. A group of people Leonardo assumes to be employees are lined up on one side of the room.

On the other side, a girl he would have thought the ranch owner if he didn't know better, simply because of the way she talked to the staff members.

It's a rather odd sight, and that's not counting the outlandish color of her hair.

"What's the commotion for?"

Under the circumstances, Leonardo would probably have to step in as the manager she seemed to be looking for.

She fully intends to ignore the newcomer as she repeats, for the umpteenth time, what she wants. "Yes, I can tell the owner usually deals with all of this. Let me rephrase my question: Which of you does the rest of the team look to when your boss isn't around?"

It's only when the employees divert their attention from her to the voice that she gives in and turns to face him.

"Great question. Why don't you ask your coworkers while I go look for a more professional company?"

With the young man standing in her way, Erin can't exactly make her exit yet. It would be a matter of time, now, as long as he wasn't as daft as the others. She does hope his IQ doesn't further bring down the room's average.

Moomoo Milk is the only product Leonardo knows of that the ranch produces, but where there's milk there likely are other dairy products as well. Yogurt, butter, cheese. The list goes on.

It's not enough. What she receives is not the answer she wants. By far. It's an answer, though. Erin supposes that's better than nothing. Better than what she'd heard from the rest of the pack, to be specific.

By the sound of his explanation, he seems to be the person in charge. In title, if not in function. Her tone mellows, even if the demands do not. "I'm afraid that won't do. I was hoping to take a look at the installations before before placing an order."

Erin gives the young man a onceover. At least he sounds smarter than the average ranch employee. That's not saying much, sadly.

Leonardo's approach seems to have calmed down the, as it was revealed, potential customer. That's good. His first small victory in the context of an animal farm.

Already he feels more successful than he had been at the Pangoro ranch, despite all the effort he'd put into working with Rhian McArthur on making those Pokémon breed.

He's not certain if there are any laws prohibiting him from rejecting such a request, but he supposes there's nothing to lose in showing her around while he himself is given a tour of the factory.

As long as she didn't touch anything, all would be good.

One of the workers leads the way and he falls into step beside the purple-haired girl.

Everything was falling in place. Each piece shifting according to her wishes. Albeit a good half hour too late, she's now thankful for Leonardo's arrival, without whom such a scenario would be impossible.

"Erin," she answers simply. If he opted to only give her a first name, so would she. He would have to earn her last name, if he managed to convince her not to go to their competition for her dairy needs. When they sealed a contract, that is.

The tour begins at the stinkiest place Erin's ever set foot in. Erin would have liked to inquire further about this League business Leonardo had been smart not to detail—he'd told her barely enough to not have said anything at all, but the smell is so strong it's distracting. It makes her pinch her nose, rush for the face mask she's being offered and sigh in relief.

Thankfully, they breeze through the area. Their next stop is cold and sealed off from the miltank. A series of huge tanks stand in the middle of the room, imposing. Metal tubes come and go from them to a control panel. Perhaps most remarkably, they're all turned off.

"Seems we found our problem."

One of the problems, at any rate. Clearly, the staff have management issues as well as technical ones.

Pasteurizing is among the very first processes that milk has to go through in order to become ready for consumption. It doesn't take an expert to know that. If the very first step of the production chain was failing, it was no wonder the ranch needed help so desperately.

Leonardo's question is not meant to find someone to blame, but to lure out someone who could tell him more about the machines and what was wrong with them.

He later offers multiple solutions in the form of more demands, some of which shouldn't have to be asked but what can he do when none of the staff seem to know what's going on?

"Open up the control panel for me. Were any of the settings changed at all since the lieutenant left?"

The less the factory worker seems to know, the more Leonardo worries.

Leonardo's questioning is valid. Each question tackles the problem at hand assuming nobody has any idea of how these machines work. Erin has never seen or touched a pasteurizing machine in her life, either, but she has a basic understanding of how it works just from watching all its parts and how they are placed.

No piece is fortuitous. The machine may look a mess, but each of its tubes serves a purpose.

When the machine is turned back on and the screen that's supposed to show the milk's temperature stays blank, it's not hard to tell which part is malfunctioning. "Try checking the thermocouple."

Her comment may come as a surprise—may turn a few heads. If it does, she ignores them. She's speaking only to the League officer.

"Most industrial machines nowadays are built on a principle of safety first. If it can't read the milk's temperature, it will surely stop functioning at all. That said, I think these valves shouldn't all be closed." Erin's standing right next to the pipes in question, one colored valve atop each one.

The user manual he'd asked for earlier would probably include a troubleshooting guide that explained something to the same effect. If asked, she'd shrug and say, "Double engineering degrees."

Sure enough, all of Erin's suggestions show up in the user manual in one way or another. Leonardo suspects she's either read the manual herself very recently or is the actual culprit behind the machine's malfunction.

But that last option would be way too paranoid, even for him.

"Looks like you're suited for this job than I am."

Leonardo's joke comes just before he issues orders to the ranch's staff to turn the machine off again and call a technician to check inside machine's tanks, where the thermocouples should have been placed.

They finish the tour at the conveyor room, where previous shipments of Moomoo Milk and its many derivatives are packaged for transport. Soon, they'd have a lot more coming in from the factory.

He offers her one for free under the premise that this is the reason she came all the way here to begin with. A free sample, if you will. Surely nobody would mind, seeing as she was about to buy some more.
